Demag DCL-Pro compact conductor line

PRESS RELEASE

Safe and reliable power supply:
Demag DCL-Pro compact conductor line

*New enclosure profile featuring honeycomb pattern
*Patented connectors cut assembly times
*Up to 200 A in continuous operation

Düsseldorf, 31 October 2012. Safe and reliable power supply with the new generation of Demag conductor line system: DCL-Pro is used to supply power to mobile equipment and to transfer power and control signals. DCL-Pro features a newly developed, highly rigid enclosure profile of honeycomb design, which can be used to accommodate up seven conductors with a cross-section of up to 70 mm². This design enables currents of up to 200 A to be supplied in continuous operation.
In addition, DCL-Pro features pre-assembled connectors, which makes assembly much easier and cuts the time required for installation. Compatibility between DCL-Pro and its predecessor model DCL also makes it possible to extend existing installations.

Dr Thomas Bönker, Head of the Components Business Unit, states: “With our new DCL-Pro compact conductor line, we are offering a power-supply system which has been further developed on the basis of practical needs with the aim of ensuring absolute reliability all along the line. To achieve this, we have implemented a new enclosure design any many minor current collection improvements to ensure safe and reliable operation over a long service life.”

Profile section enclosure design with honeycomb pattern
The new DCL-Pro is based on a new enclosure profile. Thanks to its honeycomb design, the enclosure displays high intrinsic rigidity with high bending resistance for a low deadweight. Furthermore, the profile section has been provided with a larger conductor rail recess. DCL-Pro can accommodate up to seven copper conductors with a maximum cross-section of 70 mm². This design enables currents of up to 200 A to be supplied in continuous operation. The enclosure profile is offered in two designs: for straight tracks and for curved tracks with a minimum radius of 800 mm. In addition, the entire track can be equipped with a profile seal. This enables improved IP 24 enclosure to be achieved.
The design is compatible with the previous DCL system. In this way, existing installations can be extended with ease.

Patented connectors for simple assembly
The DCL-Pro compact conductor line features fully pre-assembled connectors with high standards of safety. This ensures simple assembly for rapid installation. The patented connectors are provided with a click-connection mechanism. This ensures a secure hold even before assembly work begins, since the rail connectors cannot slip. In addition, the bolted retaining system employed provides for improved ease of assembly. If a joint needs to be opened at intervals for maintenance and inspection purposes, it is not necessary to disassemble the entire connection arrangement. The connector remains on the copper conductor rail. The DCL-Pro connection arrangement also forms a seamless rail connection at the end of the copper conductor to ensure reliable power transfer.

Adjustment on site, as required
DCL-Pro straight sections are offered in standard lengths of 4,000 mm, intermediate lengths are already supplied cut to length ex works. Thanks to its clever interface design, DCL-Pro can also be modified on site, if necessary. Solutions to meet such specific needs can be easily achieved by means of the system’s connector cap adapter.

Reliable current collector system
DCL-Pro current collector trolleys are fitted with an optimised wheel system which facilitates smooth travel characteristics for a longer service life. Current collector trolleys are available in two versions with different wheel geometries: current collector trolleys for straight travel are fitted with guide wheels that have a wide wheel contour. For travel on curved and straight tracks, current collector trolleys are used with guide wheels that have a narrow wheel contour. The current collector trolleys are rated for travel speeds of up to 200 m/min. Wear-resistant spring-loaded contacts provide for high currents and control signal transfer free of interference. Bronze sliding contacts are suitable for standard applications; graphite sliding contacts are available as an alternative for arduous operating conditions.

Precise power infeed arrangement
DCL-Pro includes a comprehensive range of system components for installation configurations to meet individual needs. For example, the power infeed can be integrated at any point along the track. Besides the centre powerfeed arrangement, there is also a further small powerfeed arrangement that is specially designed for straight or curved track sections with a conductor cross-section of up to 15 mm². Alternatively, power can also be fed into the system at the ends of the track.

System designed for ease of maintenance
The system offers particularly easy maintenance thanks to good accessibility to all parts of the installation. The connector caps can be opened wide enough to provide good access to the connectors for assembly and maintenance purposes. For maintenance purposes, the current collector trolley can also be easily removed from the track at any joint without the need to disassemble the connectors.

Designer tool for planning installations
The DCL-Pro compact conductor line can be used to implement solutions tailored to meet your individual needs. Demag provides planners of installations with a web-based Designer tool. The convenient planning tool at www.demagdesigner.com can be used to assist detail planning including the generation of parts lists.

Demag Cranes Installs More than 25 Overhead Cranes, up to 450 ton Capacity for Siemens Energy in Charlotte, North Carolina

Siemens Energy selected Demag Cranes as the overhead crane supplier for its Charlotte manufacturing operation expansion. Siemens expanded its manufacturing operation with the completion of a 450,000-square-foot natural Gas Turbine production plant adjacent to its existing Steam Turbine-Generator plant.

Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) August 27, 2012 Siemens Energy selected Demag Cranes as the overhead crane supplier for its Charlotte manufacturing operation expansion. Siemens expanded its manufacturing operation with the completion of a 450,000-square-foot natural Gas Turbine production plant adjacent to its existing Steam Turbine-Generator plant. Charlotte is the only Siemens plant in the world that makes gas and steam turbines as well as generators. The facility also plays a key role in the important power plant service business. Demag Cranes has completed the installation of all of the overhead cranes including several above 100 tons capacity with spans of almost 100 feet. Most of the cranes had multiple hoist arrangements, for dual pick up and rotating parts, with main and auxiliary hoisting functions. Each crane was designed to meet the specific lifting and turning requirements of the manufacturing process. These cranes are used throughout the manufacturing and assembly process, from single part production to lifting, rotating, fine positioning, transporting and loading the completed gas turbine which can weigh more than 250 tons.

“These cranes are integral to each step of the Turbine manufacturing process,” said Troy Starr, Manufacturing Technician, Siemens Energy. “Demag provided a full range of solutions, from small work station cranes, wall traveling jib cranes, to the very large 450-ton crane.” “This was a very challenging project, and Demag along with its installation team of Eastern Crane and System Specialties completed the project within a tight schedule by coordinating closely with the production departments and the construction contractors,” stated Aaron Gooding, Gas Turbine Expansion Project Manager.

“Siemens has built a world class, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in North America which is focused on producing clean energy turbines and will increase USA exports. We are pleased to have been selected by Siemens to provide their crane equipment and to have supported Siemens with the successful completion of this facility“, said John Paxton, President, Demag Cranes North America.

Demag Cranes & Components and The Terex Way

Since August 2011, the Terex Group has held a majority share in Demag Cranes. To help familiarize the readers of this blog with Terex, we've outlined and described six core values that make up The Terex Way:

Our Values - The Terex Way

A Message From Ron DeFeo:

There are six values that make up the Terex Way: Integrity, Respect, Improvement, Servant Leadership, Courage and Citizenship. While each of these is fairly easy to understand, I do believe that a brief explanation is appropriate to put them into context:
Terex_Way_Poster_SM_112010.jpg
  • Integrity: We never sacrifice integrity for profit. We are transparent in all our business dealings. We are accountable to our team members, customers and shareholders for achieving our goals while protecting our reputation and assets.
  • Respect: We provide a safe and healthy environment for our team members. We treat all people with dignity and respect. We value the differences in people’s thinking, backgrounds and cultures. We are committed to team member development.
  • Improvement: We continuously search for new and better ways of doing things, eliminating waste and continually improving. We challenge the status quo and require stretch goals. We work in teams across boundaries to achieve common goals.
  • Servant Leadership: We work to serve the needs of our customers, investors and team members. We nurture a culture of “chain of support” versus “chain of command.” We ask what we can do to help.
  • Courage: We have the personal and professional courage to do the right thing and take risks that may cause us to win as well as to fail periodically. We make decisions and take action. We don’t admonish failure, only failure to learn.
  • Citizenship: We’re good global, local and national citizens. We’re good stewards of the environment and the communities where we live. We participate in making the world we live in a better place.

Press Release: Demag extends KBK Enclosed Crane System with Two Innovative Components

PRESS RELEASE
Improved safety and ease of operation

Slewing motion limitation for wall-mounted slewing jib cranes improves safety at the workplace
Cable slider for power supply lines for ease of assembly and maintenance

Düsseldorf, July 19 2012. Demag Cranes has extended its KBK light crane system to include two components. With immediate effect, adjustable limitation of the slewing motion is available for wall-mounted slewing jib cranes to protect workers at their workplaces and, at the same time, to protect material, such as neighbouring machinery. In addition, a new cable slider is now available to accommodate flat cables. This offers an outstanding and rugged design to facilitate simple installation and ensures highly convenient operation.

Limited slewing motion for wall-mounted slewing jib cranes improved safety for man and material
The new slewing motion limiter for Demag wall-mounted slewing jib cranes corresponds to the slewing motion limiting function already offered for some time for KBK pillar-mounted slewing jib cranes. Demag Cranes has modified its KBK I and KBK II wall brackets accordingly to employ this convenient safety device also for wall-mounted slewing jib cranes. This flexible solution now allows the slewing range of wall-mounted slewing jib cranes to be adapted to the given operating requirements up to a radius of 270 degrees at any time.

The pre-completed sub-assembly consists of a carrier plate, mounting bracket, perforated plate and buffer bracket. The perforated plate used in connection with buffer brackets enables the slewing angle to be precisely adjusted in increments of 1.5 degrees. Simple adjustment is possible at any time also if operating requirements change. In the same way as for pillar-mounted slewing jib cranes, the new slewing motion limiter for Demag wall-mounted slewing jibs can also be fitted to the crane jib at a later date if they are equipped with the new wall bracket.

New cable slider for reliable power supply
The new cable slider features smooth travel and guarantees ease of operation in daily use. Demag Cranes offers this cable guide in two sizes for the KBK I and Aluline 120 inside-running profile sections as well as for the KBK II family and Aluline 180. Compared to the previous solution, assembly is much simplified and ease of maintenance is improved at the same time.
The cable can be simply inserted into the side of the cable slider during assembly. This principle also makes it possible to adjust cable sag without much effort, since the cable does not need to be pulled through over its entire length. Made of wear-resistant plastic, the cable sliders can be quickly and easily introduced into the gap in the rail at any position along the profile section and removed again. Any twisting movement of the cable is prevented by a tab, which acts as integrated protection against twisting.

The new cable slider considerably reduces the amount of time needed if any maintenance work has to be carried out. The design offers a further benefit, since the electric cable no longer needs to be disconnected from the supply if cable sliders have to be replaced.

Additional information:

Demag KBK light crane system

Track and crane installations from the KBK light crane system by Demag Cranes & Components have been used all over the world for almost 50 years. KBK installations are employed as suspension cranes of single or double-girder design or as suspension monorails in companies of almost all types and sizes all over the world. Characteristic for the system is its modular design, which enables the most diverse customer requirements to be met with ease. Thanks to their high versatility, KBK installations can be easily integrated into virtually any production infrastructure and added at any time without the need to utilise the workshop area for crane runway supports or travel routes. If required, KBK ergo components can be used to accommodate kick-up or horizontal forces, such as those which occur on cranes with a large overhang or manipulator arms.

Besides inside and outside-running profile section for loads weighing up to 3,200 kg, the Demag KBK light crane system also includes aluminium profile sections. KBK Aluline is a range of parts from the modular construction kit that can be used to create installations for the particularly convenient and smooth handling of loads weighing up to 1,000 kilograms. In addition, Demag Cranes offers pillar mounted slewing cranes and jibs with I-beam profile jibs for loads weighing up to 10,000 kilograms.

Demag slewing jib cranes efficient support at every workplace

Demag KBK pillar and wall-mounted jib cranes help to cut setting-up and idle times and reduce unnecessary waiting times. With a wide range of sizes and designs, these cranes can be adapted to provide solutions for the most varied requirements in terms of load capacity, slewing range, outreach and features even including cranes with two jibs. The main characteristic of all variants is the low jib deadweight and correspondingly large outreach and high load capacity. Special hook path dimensions can be achieved by means of longer masts or pedestals. Sets are also available to anchor the mast to foundations or existing workshop floors.
